Peppermint Texas Sheet Cake

A peppermint Texas sheet cake is a delightful twist on the classic Texas sheet cake, infused with the refreshing flavor of peppermint. It's perfect for the holidays or anytime you crave a rich, chocolatey treat with a festive touch.

Here's what you'll need to get started:

For the cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2.  whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla and peppermint extracts.
  4. Mix the dry ingredients and buttermilk with the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake cools, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and cocoa powder together. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar, milk, and peppermint extract until smooth and creamy.
  7. Once the cake has cooled slightly, spread the frosting on top. You can also decorate with crushed candy canes or chopped peppermint bark for an extra festive touch.

Here are some tips for making the perfect peppermint Texas sheet cake:

  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Don't overmix the batter, or the cake will be tough.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it, or the frosting will melt.
  • Get creative with your toppings! Chopped nuts, sprinkles, or even a drizzle of white chocolate would all be delicious.
